"Data miner" on siteAt the 2nd Data Mining User Event Days in the Dorint Parkhotel Chemnitz on the last two days, about 200 guests informed themselves about possibilities to discover hidden interrelations in huge datasets that can improve marketing, service and sales. The participants from all over Germany - whether users, software producers or from universities - listened to lectures and discussed at presentations and job talks.A highlight of the user event days organized by the company Prudential Systems Software GmbH (prudsys) and the Artificial Intelligence Group of the Chemnitz University of Technology was the presentation of the prizes at the final event of the Data Mining Cup as a Germany-wide contest. Using specific software, the "junior-staff data miners" searched for solutions to a data analysis problem. In the end, 57 of 160 interested students took part in the contest. The winner was Sven Völker (Ilmenau University of Technology) who will travel to the world's largest International Conference of Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD) in San Francisco / USA. He was followed by Alois Lindner (Weiden University of Applied Sciences) and Jens Fissler (University of Dortmund). The best participant from Chemnitz was David Brunner who took the seventh place."In the next year, a Data Mining Cup as well as the user event days will be organized again," said Dr. Andreas Ittner, managing director of the Prudential Systems Software GmbH. The organizers even plan a European scope of the cup. |
