DMC Cup for Students from Karlsruhe

By: Sandra Koegel

As part of the prudsys user days 2010 that ended on July 7, the best up-and-coming Data Miners in the world were awarded their prize in front of numerous participants. The team from Karlsruhe University took first place.

Students from Karlsruhe could stand up to 67 international teams, again.

Winner: "Team 2" Karlsruhe Institute for Technology

From 6-7th July 2010 numerous interested parties and users from universities and business met at the prudsys user days to get more information on new usage scenarios for intelligent data analysis (Data Mining) and to discuss innovative retail real-time analytics applications.

A highlight of this year's event was the now traditional awarding of the DATA MINING CUP prizes.
Realtime Analytics specialist prudsys as the organiser of the DATA MINING CUP again challenged students from home and abroad to test their Data Mining skills using a practical analysis task. In this year's competition Libri.de supported prudsys AG and provided the task and data for the competition. The task in this year's competition was to find out, which customer could be motivate to buy once again with couponing.

115 teams from 32 countries registered to take part in the DATA MINING CUP  2010. Each university could register up to two teams. 67 team solutions were submitted and analysed.

The best Data Mining team this year came from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The students from Karlsruhe (Team 2) are sure to be delighted about the EUR 2,500 prize. The prizes for the second and third teams were EUR 1,500 and EUR 1,000 and went to students from University Dortmund (2nd, Team 2) and from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (third, Team 1).

Thanks for the complete success of the DATA MINING CUP 2010 also goes to numerous sponsors, including Intershop and Schober, as well as Libri.de (DMC special competition partner) who sponsored the prizes and contributed to the DMC competition task.
